Tuna Fishing Question

Whole in the Water

Well-Known Member
I would like to go Albacore Tuna fishing on a charter this summer out of Westport WA with some of my fishing buddies. So I am wondering if any of you guys have experience with this and could let me know 2 basic things:

1) What is the best time to go?

2) Do you have any recommendations as to what charter outfit to go with?

Thanks for any helpful info.

If the guys here can't help you, there is a site out of Oregeon that has a bunch of tunaholics, google, ifish.Go to Saltydogs.Dan

I took a party boat out of Westport once and wasn't at all impressed with their charter fleet, primitive is a polite way to put it, some didn't even have bunks you were expected to sit up all night.

So choose carefully or drive further south to Oregon and charter a whole day boat for yourselves a few days in a row.

Deap sea charters is one of the better ones, the Rampage with gary radcliff capt. of it is a good choice. late july or august being the best time.

Its been a couple of years, but I fished on the Ranger out of Westport.
It was like the second week of Sept. Eight of us took 171 tuna, it wasn't a plush cruise, but the Captain and crew worked hard to get us fish. The bunks were hard and narrow and the boat was rolling and hard to stay in the bunk.

Middle to end of August.

You might want to give these guys a try. I have heard good things about both of them "Ms Magoo" and the "Ranger": http://msmagoocharters.com/Boat_Ms_Magoo.html

Here is some other information:
This is an old link, but gives you some info on times and boats:

Also, have heard good things here:

You don't want to wait much longer as the good dates will be booked. Or, you'll end up having to bribe me into going! My boat is rigged for offshore tuna trips, but I haven't tuna fished in years as it conflicts with my salmon trips. :(
