Greetings Bags,

I'm sure that method would work but are you giving this "unlawful" advice as a joke or are you not aware of the regs? Check out the freshwater synopsis in the "Bait" section:

"Fin fish… the use of fin fish (dead or alive) or parts of fin fish other than roe is prohibited throughout the province, with the following exception: You may use the head of fin fish or the headless body of fin fish as bait, only:
(a) when sport fishing for sturgeon in Fraser River (Regions 2 and 7 only), or
(b) when set lining in lakes of Region 6 or in lakes of Zone A of Region 7."

As always, be informed and watch out what advice you follow. I've made that mistake before so now I always check the regs.

Cheers,
Alex

Seeing how Bags has posted this same response for another thread recently and that some people that frequent this site might actually take it seriously, i.e. young'ns and newbies, I don't see the humour in this unless you like poachers and think that sort of stuff as being funny.

Sorry i forgot to mention im trolling for rainbows, i went out last weekend and caught 1 small fish about 12-15" with a willow leaf and a worm but i need to know more.

Thanks

Your on the right track with the willow leaf. Try the wee tad and a small len thompson spoon. I see guys dragging flies like olive and black woolley buggggers.... Hang out at the boat launch, the regulars will give you some advice.

Tournament Proven !

Far and away the best lures I've found for Elk's trout, are the J7 and J9 articulated Rapalas in black/silver or Rainbow. Drop them on a long line from the riggers (a good rule of thumb on Elk is half the distance to the bottom). Troll around the Neck, where Elk narrows into Beaver as there is some nice structure there. Don't forget to use the Rapala knot on those plugs, and good luck!

just wondering how do the fish taste from elk lake, wife says the only trout she's ever tasted which has compared to the Chilcotin is from the babine.

Reel easy,

Taste varies. If you get one fresh from the hatchery, the flesh will be almost gray and not taste so hot.

However, I've also pulled out trout whose flesh was pink/orange and they tasted quite good.

The problem is you don't know which one you have till you are gutting it ... kind of late to release the gray ones. I guess you could find out what sizes were released by the hatchery and just not keep anything that size that you catch.

Does anyone else have a way of differentiating between fesh hatchery fish and fish that have been in the lake for a while?

Cheers,
Alex
