Pictured here is a single public fishers boat parked in the driveway due to the current DFO non-retention. The negative economic and social impacts caused by this closure affect many families and businesses. All of this could be avoided by allowing retention of even just a single hatchery Chinook, fish that were made for retention and fish that should be retained.

- Didn’t buy moorage= $3890 loss for marina
- Didn’t buy fuel and oil for the trips not gone = on approx. $3000
- No morning coffee stop= one less customer for local business
- No service on equipment needed as we aren’t out fishing= loss to marine mechanics
- No tackle purchased at local shops=thousands of dollars lost to local business; just this one boat
- No other marine purchases ie: boat upgrades=loss to marine equipment dealers
- No sustainable crab or prawn dinners was always done while fishing
- Family time on the water now taken away grandpa and grandson aren’t getting to share passion for being on the water fishing
- Family vacation to fishing destination cancelled=loss for that community no money spent on cabin/camping, marina costs and local grocery stores etc.

The Public Fishery Alliance encourages you to share your personal story about how the closure affects you or businesses you may have dealt with in the comments section on Facebook:
