SVOP course near Sooke?

I was interested in possibly getting my SVOP certification.
Do I absolutely need to take a 26-hour course or can I just write a test?

Searching the forums shows a course was given at EMCS back in 2010.
Is there still a course being given in the area?

Thanks for any help

I requested a challenge exam but part of the course is a minimum number of classrom hours. To be honest, I left having learned some things I THOUGHT I knew.

Ask anyone of the certified guides in Sooke they may be able to tell you, or at least where take it...

If your going the guide route your doing a discredit to your customers not to take it..IMHO. Better to be safe with your customers. I think its mandatory?

Its a combination of seamanship power(level2) squadron and advanced piloting (level 3)... + a lot more. Sounds like worth-wild course, and through curriculum it seems more in depth. If your starting a business you can take it off your taxes...

I think challenging it would be very difficult... You need the class time. There also the place out in Sidney that offers it..I think Coastal navigation or something like that...

This has been brought up before maybe some useful info:

wasn't sure about going full on guide, but wanted to be able to accept money for gas and other expenses.
