Short leaders on spoons.

I have been reading a lot lately of folks running really short leaders (in my mind) on spoons lately. What's the theory behind it?

I am old school I guess and like to run 5-7' leaders most of the time for my metal.

Vary the length up if nothing is happening.
Or, if in turbulent water, e.g., tide rip
I have had success with as short as 24" at times, usually in turbulent water.
My theory is that salmon seldom travel alone and are opportunistic. If one fish slashes through some bait fish, and there is some spillage of wounded herring, another salmon in the same area may swoop in and chomp.
Given that the flasher/dodger imitates a salmon, and the lure imitates the wounded herring ...

But I could be wrong.

Never would have believed if it didn't happen to me more then once.. Saved the flasher

Yes...I've had that happen on flashers..

But it seems the fish can be selective.......flashers with the "cracked ice" chrome or "plaid' criss-cross chrome on them get most of the action.....

Other flashers that I've used have nothing on them......
