Shorefishing Near nanaimo

Hi All,

I will be in Nanimo/Lantzville next week and am interested in shorefishing. Are there any public spots or other spots people would recommend I try? Is there a local baitshop I can go to get bait and advice? I plan to do mostly bottom fishing but will have floats and lures as well.

Float fishing with bait isn't a method used for shore fishing here in the chuck......although I guess it could be done.

Rocky Point in Nanaimo is where the salmon spincasters go.....they spincast metal spoons or buzzbombs, Zilda's, Spinnows etc......2 inch to 4 inch.

Neck Point (Nanaimo) you can do that too in places.........

Much of the shore is too sloping, shallow and flat for spincasting for Chinooks......although casting for Coho is a different story.....Coho come right into shore at times in certain areas (not everywhere),

Pinks can be had from shore too.....at the right time in the right place.

In Nanaimo, go to Harbor Chandler (south end of town near the waterfront)......very good store for tackle and knowledge.

What are the chances for rockfish, lingcod, and flatfish?
