SFI-BC Message Re. DFO Fishing Closures & Reg Changes

The precedent has been set....much like Hali. It’s not gonna go back, this is what we will have to adapt to.

on an organized day,, everybody from that area should be dropping lines in the zones the whale chasers are allowed in.

This is simply the start. Closures will continue to spread. If the whale population increases, it will because closures are such a great idea and need to be expanded. If the whale population decreases, it will be because there were not enough closures.
Anyone who thinks this is the end, is dreaming in technicolor. It may not be your area this time, but it soon will be if we roll over on this one!

Ok so everyone is saying let’s not give in. I agree. What do we do next?

I genuinely believe most people follow the regs because they believe they are for the best of the resource, not because they are afraid of being caught. Where will that leave us as more and more of these ridiculous politically driven regulations get jammed down our throats?

Increased Cruise ships, Pipeline Frieghters to quadruple, larger expansion of cargo ports, more Ferry traffic, whale whatchers chasing relentlessly day after day ....... Fish farms licenses renewed or increased, FN pounding them in the rivers....

PROTEST FISHERY SOME ONE SAID ....... IM ALL IN.
IS IT OK TO HAVE JET SKIES FOLLOW THE WHALE WATCHING TOURS...... Its no different.
Management at its finest...... Simular to BC Politics

Apathy always rules the day. As outdoorsman, hunters and fisherman are losing access and opportunities at an unprecedented rate. This trend will continue, until we stand together as a force to be reckoned with. Doing my very small part for conservation, I have come to realize we are our own enemy. There are a few people doing most of the heavy lifting, regarding conservation and hunter/fisherman opportunity. Most including myself, feel we are doing our part by writing an occasional letter and ranting amongst our collective echo chamber of like minded individuals. This has been proven over and over again to be whofully insufficient. We need to ask ourselves, as a voting block of close to 250,000 hunters and saltwater anglers, why do we continue to be ignored and have non science based policies forced upon us, while various industries and shrill ultr-left eco groups, are appeased and left unscathed. IMO, this is because we are not respected and our actions, or lack therof, will not effect the policy maker’s likelihood of being re-elected.

Playing nice has not and will not work. An emotional fact distorted arguement, will always win out over a science based, rationally presented case. I can’t believe I am going to quote Trump’s father, but he said something similar to “ When you get punched in the face, punch them back twice as hard” Look how far that bit of advice has gotten a deeply flawed, narcissistic compulsive liar.

As I opened my rant “Apathy always rules the day” I have seen first hand how people will yell and pound their chests, but when action or effort is required, they are nowhere to be seen. The question is, how to convert us chronic complainers to men and women of action ? I don’t have the answer to this, but you can bet your a@@ that all the antis do.

Following is a quote by Martin Niemoller, who was a pastor and critic of Adolph Hitler. Although I don’t want to suggest that our struggles remotely resemble what people suffered through in ww2, I do want to highlight the human predisposition to looking the other way being complacent.

“First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out-
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and
I did not speak out-
Because I was not a Trade Uninist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not
Speak out-
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me-and there was no
One left to speak for me.”

Although there is no existential threat to our lives as the above is referencing, there is a existential threat to our way of life and identities.

Where are the people that make money from a social media standpoint?
Brendan Morrison?
Willie Mitchell?
Mark Pendlington?
Gary Cooper?
Terry David Milligan?
The gibbs tackle team?
These are all great figure heads and people who would be great for is to bridge to gap between us and the everyday people!!!
I am sure that within the group of.clients and.friends of us as fisherman there are probably even more people.that could be used to help.our fight!
I don' t expect anything from fishingwithrod , because if he can't make anything money wise for himself he will will not use his website to help us.

Can one of our provincial leadership groups please take the lead on this? Or at least tell me why they can't / won't. If they cant do it, tell me and I will start one that can. It would take at least one organizer in each community.
Who is in?

Let’s do it! Sitting around bitching will not accomplish anything.

Another suggestion. Pender and Sooke areas are closed to fishing, correct? So we could do a large scale troll with no rods in the water and make a point that way, without breaking any laws. We could make signs in protest.
Just brainstorming

No one has given up...good well thought out plans to follow up don't happen overnight and seldom when you are still pissed. Our reps are working on this and when they have a course of action they will let everyone know.

Totally agree. As I postedon the other thread, Saturday morning of the July long weekend we meet doing a troll along the pender bluffs then do a flotilla up through the islands and Active Pass turning around at Sturdies bay then end it at the coast guard Dfo station on Saltspring. Going along the ferry route and into Ganges will definitely get some attention!
