Oil drain plug yamaha 9.9

While doing oil change found that the drain plug is plastic with a metal hex head. I believe these are "breakaway" plugs.
When removing the plug the metal portion breaks off leaving most of the plastic plug still in.
I was able to chip away at the plastic and get it out but seems there must be easier way.

Anyone have experiance with this?

Thanks!
