Not a nice day out there but a productive one nevertheless. Put in a couple hours at Tunstall Bay while the prawn traps were soaking. Approx 200 prawns and a very feisty 11lb winter spring (Skinny G just off bottom) made weathering the winds and rain worthwhile.

Fished the harbour Saturday 830hrs - 1130hrs --- QB buoy area, no bites for us, marked a lot of bait on the sounder though..

We fished the W side of Bowen on Sunday for about 4 or so hours...nothing. Didn't see much for bait either. Really nice to be on the water though this time of year.

Well done on getting out! Planning to drop the virgin prawn traps one day next week and hit HITW, anyone think that's pointless and think there might a better bet elsewhere (other than the pub for a couple of hours)? ;)

You never know where you'll find them this time of the year. HITW, west/north side of Bowen, West Van shoreline, freighters, mile markers along Jericho....if you see bait give it a whirl. Take a look and do a few tacks along there if you see bait...hate at er'. Easier to keep an eye on your traps as well considering the amount of thieving that goes on.

This time of year I like to hit structure, west of Bowen is a good start, try to stay out of RCA zones though, but still plenty of fish. The prawning is good over there too

Hut Island is close by and always worth a try in the winter in that area. Tunstall Bay is a little further, but is probably the most dependable spot during the winter fishery.

Today looks like a great day to test the kicker out... 45 knot winds?? Wow!
