its time to get a fixed mount for my boat. im venturing farther out in the water as my confidence builds and so does my awareness to safety. i have a Lowrance 522 gps.. what works well with the unit? i see the icom 422 is popular, does any one have a north-star 721? or the uniden 525? is the buddy feature worth having?
looking forward to your input.

I like my Icom M-422 - one feature it has is a PA which can come in handy sometimes, but if you don't need it, there is another model that is basically the same, but without the PA feature.

Get yourself a good quality radio and antenna, and install it properly and it will serve you well. Not a place to go cheap as it could end up saving your life or someone elses.

Be sure to get DSC and your personal number.

I bought a Standard Horizon and hooked it up to my Lowrance gps. Super easy to do. Got my mmsi # and got a radio guy to come to boat and 'tune' my antenna. This included installing a gold plug on coax. Well worth it. I can now listen to vancouver harbour traffic from Cowichan Bay. amazing reception

Yes, I've had a couple of SH radios - very good quality.

ps: Love the tag-line! :D

ive narrowed it down, icom 304 or 422.
does any one have any idea if you need a mmsi # for the 304.
will it have the same gps features.

Hey Tmit22

We just recieved an Icom 422, but we now do not need it as our old radio has been replaced under warranty.

If you are interesed, we will sell it to you for the same price we paid. It is brand new, just removed everything out of the box.

The best place to order it was from Radio World.

We paid $200 for it.

Let me know

Good Choice, just ensure you have a good antenna as well.

Cheers
