Here's an update on my custom pod. Should be done by the end of the week and then we'll get to mounting and plumbing the 175 Optimax.

Hey Sangster, I'm getting the work done by Dearden Marine here in Gibsons. I used to work for him back when Coastal Craft aluminum boats were being made out of his shop. He's a great craftsmen and marine design/engineer with over 30 years experience in the industry so I didn't think twice about using his services.

Going to powder coat with non skid finish down the road. For now its going to be 2" wide 3M non skid adhesive strips.

The pictures show the pod about 70% complete. Still need to weld flat bar around swim grid and then we'll fab and weld a heavy duty kicker plate on the port side.

Looks sweet. What are your plans to fill the hole in the floor?

I'm thinking about making a checker plate hatch cover for the floor and use the space underneath for simple storage. I can't believe how much more deck space I have back there now. Its like a totally different boat.

Pod has no inner structure except for some extra plate where the outboard bolts onto. Its 1\4" and the swim grid decking is 3\16". The pod sides and bottom were made with one piece of plate and welded inside for a nice clean look. So the pod itself was made in 3 pieces as opposed to 5 separate pieces (bottom, sides, front, and back) welded together on the outside. It will be interesting to see how much actual flotation I'll get in the stern. I'm going to be a couple hundred pounds lighter in the stern after all is said and done.

Added kicker plate and trim around grid today.......
