Maxwell windlass question

Hi there,

Need to replace windlass on boat (21' Hourston). Bruce anchor with full chain rode. The old windlass has the vertical capstan type setup.

Question: what is the capstan for, wrapping rope before chain comes in? Is it pointless to have one with a full chain rode?

Just trying to figure out whether to get a Maxwell RC8-6-12V (flat) or RC8-6-12VCAP (with vertical capstan, like what's on there now).

You are correct, pointless with full chain rode.

I would go with the

Maxwell RC Series RC8-6 because it will work with both chain and rope And it is a lower profile.​
