Ling cod

i heard a story a while back, wondering if it's true. i was told that there was a period of time (long time) when ling's were strictly off limit, a closed fishery. the guy said that due to the ease of catching them, they were nearly wiped out on the inside waters and fishing for them again is a recent thing.

is this a tall tale or fact?

i have caught a few and so have my mates, and i see plenty of ling carcasses around. everyone likes them, and if they are there, they seem to bite. anyone concerned about the potential to overfish this species?

Yes, they were closed for about 4-5 years in the Gulf Islands off the top of my head re-opened roughly 10 years ago if I recall correctly
