Installing a haul drain question?

Thinking about installing a brass drain in my Double Eagle, the thing im not sure about is after you drill a 1'' hole and seal install the drain what can be done to seal the wood inside the hole you just drilled. Is there some kind of liner you can put in there? i cant see it being a good idea just to leave it as bare wood that will soak up water if it happens to get in there. Any one been down this road?

you could drill the hull a little oversize then coat with fiberglass resin, let that set up before installing the bung
