How long do the logs stay in the water?

This is way off topic but I was wondering how long do they store the cedar trees that are floating in the river? Do they eventually start to decay at all? I know cedar is rot resistant but therr must be some period of time that is too long.

Not sure specifically about species but they used to go back and reclaim sunken logs out of lakes north of Campbell River on some of the islands. Here's someone "Bobbing for logs" back East:
