Frozen herring strip

I noticed that outfitters is selling frozen and vacuum packed strip. I have never fished it, but have a decent amount of herring from the Childrens hospital sale, and was wondering if it's hard to get good at cutting and fishing it.

Cheers,
Dave

Dave: Unless you have frozen the herring individually, flat, and straight (i.e. on a cookie sheet) it will be hard to cut good strip out of the herring you have. It may be better to bring some to my place then we will go use them for halibut.

If you do want to learn to cut strip I can show you as I cut and fished strip for many years in Saanich Inlet as well as Sooke, Bamfield, and Gold River.

Dave: When cutting strip it is best to have the herring cured for 6 months to a year to firm them up. If you cut strip from fresh herring it is too soft and will not hold up properly in a teaser. It is better to let the herring dehydrate and shrink a little prior to cutting the strip, not after.
