Fraser river sockeye

launched at wellington in Ladner yesterday, in the morning one Seine boat waiting to launch ( i assume not a local boat otherwise they could use the reserve launches ) and the another right in front of the Dock with its net out, and we counted 40 or more all the way up to Sandheads. I have a FN wife, and i can tell you the two people launching the seine boat when I arrived were a woman that was half at best certainly not full FN ( might just have status ) and her clearly non FNs male partner with blonde hair. This is all people using the system for businesses and until this is fairly balanced out the stocks and recreational fishing will suffer. I spent 100 on fuel and food ( all taxable spending ) and spent the day fishing at Sandheads with my son and caught a few jacks and two sockeyes we tossed back, but 40 or 50 seiners taking in how many sockeye ? to be just sold at the road side all for all non taxable income, and we cant keep two fish, think about this. I cant wait till this government is out.
I almost got kicked off this site for saying this a little while back on this forum, we have nobody working for us the people it’s sad, money before people

I've been flagged multiple times, but I'm going to call out hypocrisy for what it is, I'm a divorced dad who worked every day for the last 30 years and paid hundreds of thousands in taxes and produces for this country, and I just want to spend the summer on the water with my son catching our allotments of salmon, my paid license allows me 12 of each species per year, but how disingenuous of the DFO to then close those species when they are running, this is basically making me me pay for a product and then taking the product back, with out a refund. The problem is we are taking it, and the people exploiting it aren't paying taxes or keeping with traditions on their harvest, they are running an under the table business. Everything i state here is a fact, with tons of evidence to back it up.

I guess we can just hang up our gear and boats not purchase licenses and do what every one else is, just buying them https://vancouver.craigslist.org/van/for/d/vancouver-fresh-salmon/7519414897.html

sad isnt it,

I'm hoping a new PP government will gut the DFO, its a bureaucratic mess mixed with radical woke socialist's and foreign ENGO members.
I think people are wanting better, more common-sense regulations and enforcement - not complete anarchy. Unfortunately none of the mainstream parties have the desire to cater to anyone but their special interest groups and donors, and the general public isn't interested in electing divisive fringe groups that target the lowest common denominator.

I just want to highlight this, those seiners while they have a license and allotted time to have nets out, nobody is monitoring that, there is no DFO out checking if the regulations are being followed.
Yup, even if the next group are no better the only thing they understand ever is to kick their sorry butt off the public trough.

heads up on your terminology, those are gillnetters not Seine boats, big difference. Changing governments will make little difference, court decisions over the years have sealed the deal, but wish it was different.

I would think that if evenly applied by the DFO to commercial fisheries and the in river net fishery by First Nations both could be subject to on board monitoring or video technologies to ensure regulation compliance.

By this we assume you are talking about another divisive JT liberal government, held together by a divisive radical socialist coalition brokered in a backroom deal and not democraticly elected by the canadian public, I'm sure you mean this fringe lowest common denominator, that currently sits at a 20% approval rating,

I think you meant to say gillnet

Test sets have been really good in the straights. If it keeps up we will get a commercial opening. Fingers crossed.

yeah they meet tuesdays and fridays. The longer it gets delayed the more the rec guys in area 20 and 12 will get screwed, Vancouver is fine still usually good well into septemeber.

They are in a meeting right now. Looking good for commercial and sport. Fingers crossed everyone.

It's already over for area 20. Usually an opening in July is ideal. Not mid August. I am sick of the environmental idiots running the department. Should have been opened weeks ago.
