Fishing the Nanaimo Lakes

I'm going up to the lakes on the weekend with some friends and I am wondering if anyone knows what the fish are biting at right now?

I was up at Ash lake and Toy lake last weekend, and there were nothing but small jumpers. Three of us and we couldn't catch anything decent over three days. I don't know if we just aren't using the right thing, or if we should just stick to salt water!

Any info would be much appreciated!

I just troll a black leach pattern, but I haven't been up there since late August. Be carefull, there's tons of deadheads in there.

The west end of 2nd lake, in the bay. I'll try it. thanks.
Better off in the boat, or can you fish from the shore as well?
There is a boat launch there, I think.

What do you use River Hunter? Same kind of thing as adrianna3, black leach?

All help is much appreciated.

You need to get there by boat.Black leech is golden. We sometimes get out on the gravel bar and fish the river and where it drains into the lake. Also ,in the bay you'll notice how the shallows suddenly drop off into dark depths, fish along the drop off works well.
You'll have to launch from the cabins unless the second lake gate is open.

Fishing was great!

Black leech and flying termites worked very well.

Fish in the river as well as the lakes! Best fresh water fishing I've had all year.
