Cope build

Well it is well underway so I figured I would start a thread so people can follow along. It is a modified Cope 24 Yellowpoint build - (Walker x23).

Little background as to why - I went over to Walker a couple months back to look at the x23 that they are currently building in hopes to make a deal on it. The boat is perfect for us, small cuddy up front, enclosed cabin and plenty of deck space yet small enough to trailer around and fit in the garage. It is unfortunate that our budget didn't quite line up with the price of the boat so I began thinking of what other way can I get myself this boat...

A few call to Cope and CJM and the ball was rolling!!!

Cope was able to modify the plans a little bit in a HUGE way, the boat is just under 24' now with the extra 7" coming at the back swim platform. Cope extended the swim platform like pictured which makes it way more usable especially with a transom door that will be added to the build.

Nice! Who is welding it up for you?

I'd consider upsizing the fuel tank if you haven't already, there is room for at least a 120 gallon tank down the middle. In floor fish boxes on either side of the fuel tank too!

Jaxoncraft is welding it up to about 90%, I'll take over and do the small things then windows, wiring, interior...

Fuel tank is 100gal and good idea about the fish boxes, I'll check to see what would be involved at this point.

I know a few people that have had Cope boats built by others, and Bruce was really good along the way at making changes or suggestions.

I knew Robert was doing your build, but I hadn't seen the shop expansion until you posted the photo.

What is he building behind your boat. It looks like a 22 Centre Console.

Any updates?
Yup! I pick it up this Thursday.:))

Been practicing a load of mig and tig welding nightly and ready to take on the project. Going to have a LOAD of work ahead of me but it should be fun

I was talking to Robert yesterday, he was as always in good spirits and was bugging me to ride up for a visit. We both ride KTMs and like to lie about our riding prowess.

Apparently you have a thing for German motorcycles. Doesn’t anybody ride domestic anymore?

Nice work @AndrewH. I saw a Tolman at about that stage a fellow is selling off, unable to finish. Nice you have it to that stage when you are taking over. Any time line? Do you have a few pizza/beer/free trip skilled guys lined up to help finish?
Well I would always welcome help but I think I have a handle on things. My welding seems to be ok for a hobby guy. Here is some outside corner tig on 1/8” and 3/16 T-joint mig.

I have a bunch of fab work to do but should be fun and rewarding at the same time.

They look great, as I’m sure you’ve found out. Prep/setup is the most important part.

I was out last year with ryanb on his boat which I think is the same. Pretty awesome boat. I was impressed with the space it had for a 23’ boat. What are you doing for power?
