anchor chain??

Just curious been anchoring on constance for the past year, and so far no problems.
what is the purpose of an anchor chain "2X boat length", is this to give a bit of weight so your anchor has a better hook up ratio??
or to hold down the rope to give a better angle on the line for hooking up.

IT holds the rope down to give your anchor better hooking ability, your anchor holds better as you pull closer to horizontal. More chain is much better then more anchor.
