yup. If you have an alloy boat, go with the aluminum bracket.
If you have a fibreglass boat, go with the stainless, 'cuz its purdy....but aluminum will do the same job. likely for less money and less weight. As far as durability between one or the other, it all depends on the construction of the bracket.
Its personal preference and application when deciding between a fixed or hinged bracket.
Assuming you have a fiberglass boat, if you keep your boat in the water for extended periods the aluminum bracket will corrode fairly quickly as it tends to be a less noble metal. If you bond it to your anode system that will help extend it's life. If you go with a stainless bracket, it won't corrode as quickly (is still subject to corrosion however). If you trailer your boat, then aluminum will work just fine -- try to get a good powder coated one as they tend to be better protected.
