Just returned from 4 days at China Creek. Friday and Saturday ran out to Pill & Bamfield as fishing was obviously quite slow in the inlet itself.
Did OK at Pill Friday AM (2 Springs, 2 Coho) and Bamfield Wall Sunday AM (4 springs, 1 Coho) but nothing really spectacular. Biggest was 31 lbs.
Fished the inlet around China Creek Sunday because Saturday was my brother in laws 50th and we didn't finish celebrating until 3:00AM, then got up at 4:30AM to be on the water. I am WAY too old for that kind of stuff! Anyway, lots of Socks jumping, especially around Franklin Narrows. The water in the inlet is almost scarily warm. Its pretty obvious based on the condition of the sockeye we hit (on chovies at around 40 to 60 ft!) that there is going to be pretty high prespawn mortality on that run this year. Too bad really.
I hit no Springs Sunday AM around China Creek. Fished the slide and the Narrows and saw nothing landed in the lots of boats that were out. The other boat in our group got one 21 lbs right in the middle of the inlet crossing from the fish farm to the narrows.
Heres the good news: The other boat statyed up until this afternoon and I just got off ther phone with them. They hit 4 springs this morning in the inlet and saw "quite a few" landed. Perhaps the downpour on Saturday moved them in. I hope so, I'm heading back this weekend!
