What to do about abandoned prawn gear???
In one spot that I have been trapping lately there are at least 3 traps that never move, never get pulled and have massive growth on the rope and float. located in Howe Sound in a popular area.
Call some DFO number?
try to find some name and or phone number if still visible on the float?

Pull them if you feel like it. Call the number if there is one, keep the gear for yourself if there isn't. Abandoned prawn and crab gear will make a mess of your boat. Abandoned gear will kill a lot of stuff from ground and rockfish as well as the target species.

if they dont have ID, they are poaching. clean em up!

Ghost traps or non ID,d traps , are for the taking !!!

massive growth is usually a good indicator of a lost or ignored trap.... ill check for a phone number and name and give them a call.

more often then not they've floated away and got hung up somewhere else.
