We are going to head out for Halibut Friday weather permitting after the morning bite. Might run out to the rats nose if it isn’t too snotty. If anyone is heading out it would be good to have a buddy boat?

This is a shakedown trip for my buddies 282. Hopefully it is smoother than last years shake down on his BW Conquest!

Had a couple fish at Swale Friday morning then headed out for halibut, little snotty so chose peanut and it was dead. Found a random pinnacle and had a massive hit, gave the rod to a buddy from Nebraska and it was pulling so hard captain had to help. A hard fighting 50lber came over the rail. A few cod using slow jigging, or as best I could adapt it.

Had one nice hit at Mears that spit the hook when the flasher came out of a wall of a wave. Got 12 keepers at Kirby and Swale, nothing big but steady action and Nebraska landed the biggest salmon too!

Fresh Hali for Colorado family tomorrow in Courtenay and may drag the boat up so we can get a couple lings and get the 3 kids out on the water for the first time!

Had good bites at beal and cree bit of a grind but found our fish. Swale was firing on all cylinders this morning. Lots of shakers and smalls mixed in, but plenty of low teens around. Small bait in stomachs. Easy halibut pickings on the bank, salmon belly being the preferred treat. Camped around Effingham, another solid trip.

By camped do you mean anchored or actually camped on the beach? Have been looking for moorage in August and so far everything is booked solid

What could possibly of happened to the BW ??

Just got back. Fished to Sun. It was a nice trip. This was first trip of the boat improvements. What a night day difference.

Lots of fish around. We had kids with us we were limited on where to go. Not much bottomfishing this time around.

Salmon 7 to 10lbs. Got one in upper teens in evening bite. @chris73 finally landed it after losing some good ones day before up at Kirby.

Fished the wall, bradys up to whittlestone, and swale.

All fish loaded with small bait fish.

Nice seeing you guys out there @Derby @Tips Up @wolf @searun.

Phew.....for a moment I thought there might actually have been a BW issue, just components and maintenance issues of course:D
Yeah, it really comes down to a captain knowing his boat and much better choice on the install on the electronics this time and buying 4 strokes. Still had the stress of a captain with not a lot of knowledge combined with an inaccurate fuel gauge and hard to find fuel switch. Bamfield is not the place to learn, but some people never listen!

Fished the wall this morning. Bait just outside harbour. Dropped in and picked up a 15 right off the bat. Only some smaller springs and dinkers after that and picked up a seal tail. Tonight went for at troll at ohuiat and got 1 fish but was a nice 21 lb. Turned out to be a white spring. Did well at Sanford yesterday when I first got up here. Lots of bait there. A few small coho in the mix.
Running a white hootchy and blue silver skinny g
Better grade fish on the hootchy. Alot of smalls on the spoon. Mo

Was up there last week tough going weather was not kind but cant do anything about that still had a blast with buddies got to bring back some nice fish .. ill be back. fishing in front was one of the best spots dont really have to go far we did them all kirby, auston widdlestone etc definatlly some nice springs around and yes lots of little ones.

Another great Father's day weekend is in the books! Fishing was great with lots of Chinook around at all the places we stopped. We ended up keeping 4 but could have easily limited out on 6-10lbers, but even though the kids want to keep everything they catch we are trying to teach them about conservation and only keeping what you need. Caught a couple lings and a few black bass to replenish the white meat and tried drifting for Hali about 7 or 8 miles off shore but no luck. This year was the first year no one puked but there was still a lot of moaning and growing out in the swell... My oldest boy is now fighting fish with the down rigger rods all by himself!IMG_1575.jpgIMG_1475.jpgIMG_1595.jpgIMG_1628.jpgIMG_1513.jpg

Heading to Bamfield later this week and have moorage booked from Thursday - Sunday. We are considering heading on Wednesday, launching in PA Wednesday afternoon, and dropping the hook somewhere in the inlet overnight, so we can target Sockeye in the inlet on Thursday morning. Any reasonably safe anchorages in the inlet? Can you anchor in San Mateo Bay rather than running to somewhere in the Broken Group?
