2021 Vancouver-Howe Sound-Sechelt Reports Thread

Jason from Pacific Angler got it right on Saturday "Cover ground and fish close to the bottom". Started at the 2nd mile marker, fished out way past the bell buoy, back to the 2nd marker, out towards the anchored freighters, through the freighters down to the 1st mile marker and just when I was about to pack it in and head home blam blam blam 3 fish in 10 minutes and went home with a keeper. All fish caught close to the bottom on lighthouse lures - big eye spoons, Reelman and Avocado Dream.

Up at Porteau Cove prawning today & tomorrow. It was definitely sporty conditions in the sound today, but we found a window to go out and check the traps. Decent numbers and overall size. We had traps with up to 50 per trap. 280’- 300’. Lots of big berried females which obviously went back. Sitting by the fire drying out while the traps soak overnight. Hoping this wind dies down for tomorrow.
not many action shots from a 14’ tinny with the weather and all but there are a few tubs in the freezer tonight.

By the way, I took a screen shot of windy.com today while it was gusting 40 knots at Pam rocks. Windy reported 5 knots, lol.

I was not able to get out today, sorry no report. Did you get any Tyee, Jim wants to know how deep?
Never replied @ScapeBoat We were east / SE of the QA up until the north arm from 8 to 2:30. In the 140-250 area. Fishing 110-150 most times. One keeper (high 60s). 4 to the boat in the low/mid 50s and maybe another 5-6 small ones to the side. All released safely and carefully. No seal action Just one other boat, all the other bots were having a party by the mile markers from what we could see

What a day out in the sound today. We were handsomely rewarded for our butt kicking that we received in yesterday’s weather. Lots of sunshine, no wind, easy limits on prawns. It was like spring out there today. Usual depths for us: 275’ - 300’. Best trap today had 88 in it after a 2 hour soak.

Sweet fireplace!

It's blue with green electrical tape on the rope. We left it at the dock.
Any chance the rope was eye spliced with the green electrical tape covering the splice? 5/16" sinking rope? Some person ran over my buoy and cut the line with their prop a while back. Buoy floated a far distance away. When I retrieved it had a propeller slice a quarter of the buoy off cutting the rope in the process.

Blue trap with zip ties tying the four corners together since I never collapse them. Trap was set between 60-80ft in that area.

If someone grabbed it at the dock please PM me. Thanks
