2014 Silva Bay Derby

Silva Bay Derby Results
Despite the weather we had a great turnout for the derby and a record number of chinook caught and a record number of legal size released. 153 chinook were weighed-in.
The Lowrance HDS 10 sounder was won by Dennis Hoy on the Rubber Ducky.
Largest chinook was a 31.48 pounder caught by Steve Chan on the Sea Biscuit at Entrance Island.
2nd. (and largest by a lady angler) was 21.18 pounds and was caught by Lori Ann Moore on the Allyanna.
3rd. went to Kevin Halme on Sentinel 3 and was 20.34 pounds.
There were a pile of chinook in the 18 - 19 pound size.
Well over 100 prizes were handed out.

Not one coho was entered and it would have been good for 5th pick. There were still lots of pretty good prizes available at that point.

The committee members wish to thank all the great sponsors who donated prizes and all those anglers who braved the winds and participated. We will be making a substantial donation to the Nanaimo River Hatchery thanks to you.

Thank-you Hot Rods for all your work prior to and during the Derby. Thanks to all the others that helped out to make this a fun and successful Derby. Thanks to Jenny at Silva Bay Marina too!
I was able to get to Nanaimo on Sunday morning to pick up my daughter (despite the rather nasty water conditions) and brought her over to silva Bay for the derby wind up and BBQ! She had a great time - what a great way to spend Fathers Day, with some fishing and quality time with her !
