20' Hourston Euro Transom

Great skills involved with this build, curious what trade/profession your in? It's being done right for sure, should last a lifetime.
I have been fortunate to have a few old-timers give me pointers over the last 10 years. Right now I work in an office, on a computer :p Went to school for almost a decade, 2 yrs of that was a mechanical design technologist diploma BCIT. Materials science was a helpful class for this stuff. It's hard work for sure, my hats off to anyone who makes a living from this line of work. Thanks for asking.

Are you including what appears to be ~$600 of 3/4 ply you're using as best possible ground cover? ;)
Haha, I love that you guys picked up on that. It's plywood from 2016 when I built my house. I think it paid like 30 bucks a sheet for it or something? It's mostly 1/2". I have been hoarding it for 5 years, i knew it would come in handy. It's actually in decent shape, I can use it to make a shed or something when I'm done-epoxy coated. LOL. It makes dust management much better, hard to shop vac dirt! would be a hole to china by now.

Thanks for the info, lookin good! I can see myself doing this to the 20.2’ someday, thinking it might help with the stability at rest more than anything. With a 225 lift is no issue but she’s pretty tippy lol.
your current boat is a 20' Hourston isn't it?
Yeah, they roll side to side badly when trolling. It's the narrow hull and 20deg deadrise. I like your boat is a good one, my friend used to own it.

This weekends report
-Removed blush on all the epoxy filler on blister repairs on the hull (wet job)
-Tied in the rear combing to transom and pod floor to the transom with a layer of 1708.
-Ground and shaped her butt. Took around 3 hours and needless to say it was chest and arms day. Very sore from that. Polisher with 7" 34 grit pad works great at 600-1000RPM, dust mostly falls to the ground.
-Vacuumed the last lifting strake repair.

The fairing begins

Ya I picked it up in Parksville couple years ago, guts were solid but needed some cosmetic work and an interior redecoration to my liking. Sure tracks nice on a tack but doesn’t like weight distribution lol.

Pound for pound hard to find same size boat that can do what yours can. Great for 2 people fishing and awesome on fuel. i think you made a great choice ;)

If I’m not offshore nobody else is either lol. After pulling galley pack out and putting in bench seat on port side I can take 4 guests easy, 3 still better though. I’m burning 20L more per day over a 215 explorer, I can handle that...

Do you have a picture of the Bench seat in yours? I did a bench on top of the gally pack. Curious how yours looks.

Fits a full pull for 4 people, and max size flatties

That is very practical and useful. I love the idea of a built-in fish hold something i don't have any space for. The grey Gelcoat floor looks nice, I will do the same on my back tub for sure. Nice load of springs and hali. Very jealous.

Some progress this weekend. Put in 24 hours of work. Happy with results.

As you can see i had a lot of blisters to fill, poor old thing. Thats what happens when boats sit at the marina for too long without protection. Sanding the thickened epoxy down was labor-intensive about 4 hours for 1 side with 80 grit on 6inch DA. I need to do the other side, then go back and get all the pinholes filled using polyester filler. Then final sand and spray with interprotect 2000E and then topcoat with Teflon epoxy. By then I should have popeye arms from all the sanding and polishing in my future. Eating an elephant one bite at a time on this project. You just can't rush this type of work. Just throw every weekend at it until it's done. :p Hopefully you guys like where im going with this. Note I have started to use Duraglass and lite weight fairing compound on top of my epoxy and it's sticking and drying nicely. I use it sparingly to reduce future shrinkage and poor adhesion of polyester as much as possible but for the final shaping, it's okay to use sparingly as it's not structural just for getting corners shaped.

I'm going to try and pick away at the other side of the hull- sanding after work this week and possibly spray Interprotect on the hull next weekend if the weather lets me. I need a colour change of something soon or I will go crazy.
