Caught 6 Sockeye today ,lost 5 . Whales came through around 1:30, great show .
Fish were caught at 50 80 and 110 on the riggers. Fished from 100 to 400 feet of water. Red and Green flashers , glow head pink squirt . Nice day out there .
South Arm, north of the lightship.
 
Saw a Aluminum boat run into a fiberglass boat out at the South Arm today. Was anyone from here involved in that.
Guys in Aluminum were playing and netting a fish , boat did it's own thing and hit the side of the fiberglass boat. Heard a nice crunch sound .
 
Great day on the water. 5 for 8 on Sockeye at T10 and a bonus 10lb Chinook on the sockeye gear to close it out.

This is wierd though. At first we thought the Chinook was a sockeye. Had it in the net and in the cooler fast without a struggle just like a sockeye. The spots on back were not very pronounced and no spots on the tail. But then I notice it has no adipose fun. So I’m thinking 100% it is a hatchery Capilano white. Back at the dock to my surprise it is a bright red. As red as the Sockeye’s. This was not a stray winter fish - it was ready to spawn. Are their hatchery reds coming back to somewhere in the Fraser? I thought all the hatchery reds were US fish but this one was pretty much for sure staging to go up the Fraser?

Maybe the Sock lost or didn't grow a adipose, u have any pics if so try to post I think that's more likely then a US Chinook heading up the Fraser lol. We hit a 9.5 lb Sock and it acted like a Chinook but it was definitely a Adams Sock... Monsters

There is a run of Sockeye in Cultus Lake they have been trying to save. These Socks are clipped and I believe we have been asked to release any caught.
 
Definitely a coho have caught 3 of SA 2 hatchery 7-8lbs and 1 released 10lbs wild, huge difference in appearance between coho and sockeye! Brush up on your salmon identification and you will have no problem identifying each species, some major differences!

There are hatchery red springs in our waters now.

I have caught plenty of Hos that have even thrown DFO officer off as to it being a Ho or Chin .... So ... but we're not perfect I guess and a mistake is easily made

We caught a couple fish that were clipped and first thought coho as the spots were difficult to make out because they were so shiney chrome. When held at the right angle the elongated spots became apparent to prove it was a spring. Then we checked the mouth and they were definitely springs

I have a few friends who have been guiding for over 20 years full time, I'll send them pictures of confusing Chinoho, as we call them.
I always feel relieved when the other guys tell me they're having trouble as well.
Some of the Coho have almost no white tissue on their gums, sometimes it's almost like little white circles around each tooth.
For myself though I always identify species backwards, I look for reasons to throw it away rather than reasons to keep it. Does it have spots, does it have white gums, does it have an adipose fin, is it over 62 cm, are there spots on the bottom half of the tail.
If it's a keeper no matter what species it is then toss it in the box and get the gear back in the water, once you start approaching a species limit then you can look at it closer.
