Just got back from the derby dinner... I left early because Ive been up since 3:30. Winning fish was 23 lbs, and a handful of other fish in the 20s were weighed in. Somewhere around 70 fish weighed in in total if I heard correctly! As always it was a great time, good weather and decent fishing as well. The food was quite good on both nights too. Our boat ended up in 21st place with a 12.8lb hatch, caught at Coal Island on a coho killer. We also released 3 fish between 8 and 10 lbs, and lost a couple more that were probably similar in size. As I already mentioned I left early, so I dont have a dollar figure in terms of what was raised for salmon enhancement, but Im sure it was another impressive total. Maybe Brian or somebody will pop by with an update when its all said and done, and if not Ill find out at the next SAA meeting.
As for the fish reports I posted over the past week or so that were lacking details - the 19# fish was caught at Fairfax Point on a coho killer at 70 feet in about 130 feet of water, and the 17# was caught at Coal Island on a coho killer right on the bottom in about 130 feet of water.
Almost forgot to thank the countless volunteers that work tirelessly behind the scenes organizing sponsors, prizes, posters, food & drink, setting up the venue, weigh-station volunteers, presenters, etc, and of course the sponsors and donors! There are so many good people involved in this derby and it simply couldnt be done without them! Hope I didnt forget anybody!
And now that thats taken care of, Im going to bed!
