OFFICIAL 2015 Vancouver-Howe Sound-Sechelt Reports Thread

Out fishing the harbor. Had a double header early around 2:30 then nothing. Working to see if we can hit another spring. Fish are small around 10-11lbs.

Whats the marine forecast showing for Saturday fellas? Planning to launch at Mcdonald beach fish the T10 marker to the sand heads. First time out this season.

Took my boy out the north arm at 3ish. Trolled towards t10 hit 6 fish landed 3. Went 1 for 2 on a crazy double header. Crazy as in train wreck lol. Off the water by 530 and home just as the hail hit. Great afternoon. All red springs. 12, 15 and 18.

20150903_190927[1].jpgI was out with the lucky charm wife once again today just from 4:30 on things were very slow and the skies were threatening but we hung in there until around 6 o'clock and sure enough we got a double header one small pink but the other one was substantial and came to the surface going ballistic. I think it must have been a large coho. While trying to navigate the boat at the same time as playing my fish lost the big one. About a half hour later we were about to pack it in off goes the rod wife grabs the rod and plays it perfectly after several runs we box a beauty red spring. Another great day out at sand heads. Got it on a spoon in the shallower water probably only around 70 feet on a green white and orange spoon.

Is a 10 to 20 North West wind a no go? How accurate are these forecasts? Thanx for the info.

I would plan to go, but deside in the morning, if halibut bank is showing .7 wave hight and trending to go higher I would pull the plug, also depends on who I'm taking.

Click on Entrance, halibut bank and sandheads, NW 15 probably go, NW 17 and trending higher stay home.

Went out from 12-5 at the North Arm. Was lumpy to start but flattened out. Didn't see much action til about 4 and hit a 14# red on anchovy. Circled back with a quick change to a spoon and hooked another one but lost it at the boat. Id guess it was about 12 #. Called it quits once the dark clouds started moving in.

Went out with Howesounder and my daughter this eve. We decided to fish bait and fished the Bell starting at around 5:20 or so. Two cutties on the riggers, and one off the weighted rod. My daughter ended up hooking the only fish off the back rod at about 645 and after some chaos we landed her first fish. It was a beauty fish and a beauty night.

I got to KABONG two Chinooks today! One on the way to T10, the other at Sandheads. Both REDS, both on Anchovies in a Chartreuse UV head. The both fish were in the 75 foot area.

Got a really nice WILD coho at the T10 today too.

OLAY! :cool::cool::cool::cool:

Like what Canso said, check the current conditions on Saturday morning. I would just go out on the water and keep my eyes on the skies and waves. if it's getting too lumpy just pack and go back to shore. BTW, forecasts can easily change over the next few hours as the current stormy system is leaving the region today.

Pinks have already come and gone for the most part. A few days ago Pacific Salmon Commission released "the Panel approved, for management purposes, a provisional Pink salmon run-size estimate of 6,000,000 fish with a 50% marine timing through Area 20 of August 21." which translates to "Our preseason forecast of 14.4 million Fraser pinks was WAY off and as of Aug 21, half of all returning pinks have made it very close to the Fraser (area 20, Sooke). Those pinks have now made it into the Fraser will just the tail end of them still in approach waters. With 6 million pink being the minimum quota needed for conservation purposes it looks like there will be no commercial fishery at all for Fraser pinks. A few disappointing pink and sockeye year for sure. Ocean conditions must not have been favourable at all for these guys.

On the flip side, chinook fishing has been pretty amazing this summer off the Fraser! I was out all day yesterday and we hooked into at least a dozen springs... lost a couple, released a couple and went home with our limits. Nothing of size... all 8-15lbs. Ran bait all day. Weather/wind was pretty nice compared to other days this week. Another great day just out of Van City.

hi tincan thanks for the report, I don't like to bother people but I red you hook lots of fish and lost 2 only, because my score is less than 50 percent, last time 4 spring and 1 only on the boat, I tried lots of combination and spent lots of money on hook, I would like if you can give me some advice to improve my scores, thanks again antonio

Hey Antonio....may be a good thread to start up aside from the reports forum to get some advice. Lots of us willing to help out.

Quick question for you......do you find that you're not hooking up as many fish as you would hope (we all don't....hahaha) or is it that once you are hooked up your hook up to landing ratio is low?

Two schools of thought regarding trailing hook being either treble or single. Trebles have small hooks that tend to not go as deep as quickly because the force is potentially distributed over three hooks where as single larger hook can potentially go deeper quicker. Crap shoot but have to say the treble can be a real pain when having to release undersized fish without damage. Also have been told 40lb leader is important and at least 30lb mainline to insure a quick firm hook set. Has worked well for us. Lastly you can't try and horse springs in before they are ready....enjoy the fight and insure they are tired out should be starting to roll over on their sides and then you can surf them into the net. Having someone at the helm is a great plus. Hope that helps.

hi , my problem is once the fish is on it spat the trebles hook , mostly close to the boat when it start to spin , if you think is better the single I will try, do not hurt, maybe I will find the solution, thanks everyone
