BC Provincial Election-I Voted Already

You're right, you should boycott the oil companies. But hey I have a buddy with a silly liberal arts degree and he's looking for work can you show me where the $50/hour jobs that need no skill are? I'd like to forward him the link. I'd hate to see them buying stupid toys like the rest of us too, there's no way they should be able to have trucks, boats, quads etc.... they don't deserve them. Not everyone is a roughneck on the rigs, there isn't a single uneducated person here in operations or maintenance that I work with, also just so you know the rig is only around for 2 weeks of the wells 30 year life.

I had a great drive to work this morning I saw 7 bears including a sow with 3 cubs, 2 moose, 1 caribou, countless grouse, 3 or 4 rabbits and a the little family of horned owls I've been watching since they stole the hawk's nest to lay their eggs last month, quite the wasteland indeed. It seems there's a lot of confusion here between the oil sands and what happens in NE BC. Just a bit more fact here for fun, some of the wells we produce are over 30 years old, they're sweet almost 98% methane they require almost no processing and zero fracking, the company I work for has over 1800 more locations available to drill with an estimated 100 year life. There's over 150 people directly employed and I can't guess how many thousands more indirectly. If this isn't sustainable long term development I don't know what is.

Am I saying it's perfect? No, but the world doesn't run on puppies and rainbows and we need jobs and revenue in this province anyone that can't understand how the resource industries benefit EVERY family in this province is either being dishonest with themselves, or is ignorant to the big picture and to stubborn to admit the truth. I've never seen such rampant hipocrisy brought out by my fellow BC'ers as in this thread.
I have used puppies and rainbows in my boiler for years. You should hear their little screams when you chuck em in

Chirst this a fishing website...stop fighting over nothing. your all just embarrassing yourselves.

They are not fighting, it's called debating. So far, most of the comments add to the conversation. Nothing embarrassing about debating. Just because its a fishing forum doesn't mean people can't debate.

And, it's not over nothing like you say. It is about something.

The NDP folk should have gone out to vote, they didn't.

The NDP should have had a leader not a chipmunk. All this high ground, no negative ads attitude is for losers and they proved it.

NDP should have been playing the radio clip of Christy saying she would rather be a MILF than a cougar non-stop. That would have done well in some valley ridings.

The public has spoken and this is what we got.

A little mudslinging never hurt anybody.

I moved up to the NE just after christmas for work (actually followed the wife up as she got a great job) and coming from the coast, I thought a lot about the same things as a lot of people from the coast or simple did not know better. Rape and Pilage of our natural resourses by the oil and gas comapnies

My mind has changed on a few things;

- yes the wild side is alive and well here, the young are making great money and blowing it on toys.....but it is no different than the 3 other resourse towns I have lived in, including Port McNeill.
- yes there is some shady companies and characters...again no different than other towns I have lived in.
- biggest surprise for me, all the Professional people who work here; Engineers, Foresters, Agologists, Biologists, plus the profession trades, power engineers, Gas engineers, welders, pipefitters etc. These people went to and/or are still going to school, more spinoffs for the province. More than I have seen in other towns.

Gas is here to stay, it is what heats your homes and for some, runs your vehicles. Not sure about the Oil industry, so I cannot compare it, but for me, who is a regulator for the Gas exploration here in the North East, it is cleaner and easier on the environment than logging, which I have been involved in for the past 20 years.

Now if we want to talk about a couple of resourses that are tough on the environment, then lets focus on the Fish farms and IPP's, which have no long term comitment to the province, have very little in the way of jobs and have a detrimental effect to the environment.

Cheers

SS

at least those brainless oil bums have jobs, what they spend their money on is up to them...the north and interior of this province relies on logging, mining, oil and gas...which is the backbone bc! For your info, there is more skilled labour up north than anywhere. Get your facts straight , if it wasnt for those "oil bums" this province would be broke....what do u do for a job? what do u blow your wealth on? geeze you got me thinkin of the old days, ****** and toys....hmmm

I am overweight and when I die I want to be cremated. I am curious, would I be considered as a energy resource or a carbon imprint?

I might be wrong but most people are not saying we should stop all natural resource practices its just the way its done that is the issue. Dont put fish farms on migration routes, dont allow raw log exports, dont ship raw bitumen, dont allow logging company's to monitor themselves, dont allow mines in highly ecological sensitive places. Our bc government should be fighting for the these things and the liberals support and go along with Ottawa doing whatever id told of them.

We all know and love what we have here we just dont want to see it exploited. I think thats what people feel are what the liberals are letting happen.

To many old people holding a grudge voting. I see no relevance in the people running now for ndp and a decade ago and think the comparison is ridiculous. Also ridiculous is people thinking the ndp dosnt support and know the value our resource sector jobs. You guys do know the liberlas allow import of foreign workers right. Those liberals sure know how support the people of this province!

it is still the same people in charge of the NDP today as in the 90s, that is why so many as you call it "old people" hold a grudge know what they were/are like and those things and what the NDP stand for I believe have not changed

I agree with you pretty much 100% but people don't actually want that, they just preach it. Are you OK with some new pulp mills and refineries in Victoria?

I remember the mid to late 90's forestry was doing well and as such was villified we had mills running and people working. There was weekly road blocks, Nettie Wild put out her "documentary" Blockade which by the way prominently featured Art Loring a northern first nations member rallying against forestry but at the same time I was selling him chokers and building hydraulic hoses to replace the ones he blew, literally a 100% true story and good example of the rampant hipocrisy of most activists. The Kermode was renamed Spirit Bear, and we got the Great Bear rainforest it really is much more marketable isn't it? Now all we get is cries to bring back forestry and build more mills, I realize there's other forces that hurt the industry but we had a chance to do much better so lets learn from that mistake. I think so much of the dislike of industry comes from envy of others success without being willing to make the sacrifices to achieve it yourself and with being trendy. Matt Damon, David Suzuki and David Schindler say it's bad so it must be. 95% of haters have zero first hand knowledge and many have never left the Island or Lower Mainland in their entire lives, they live in an isolated bubble.

Speaking of Suzuki and Schindler while I admire alot of their work I wonder if old Davey boy would still be rallying if he couldn't have made a very good living at it? Would he do what he does on the Canadian median income, would he drive around in a bus with his face on the side (not a smart car or bicycle btw), would he maintain multiple residences including one on Quadra or Cortez which by it's very location has a larger carbon footprint than one in an urban center?

Damn now there's an off topic rant! lol So who else likes army truck hoochies?
