I was hitting them at 90 and 80 feet in about 160 feet of water. I think I happened to hit a school because I even had one hit as I was dropping the bait.

Big day for us at the Cap!!!!

High slack was about 10:00 yesterday morning.......and despite the SUPER thick pea soup fog we did really well.

Here is a picture of me with the 5 springs we nailed.....largest was 32. :p

good luck Scott! haven't been out in awhile, where you headed??

Just went to the Cap.....we were largely just testing out my buddies radar while dragging lines.

Unless you want to hope you get lucky on an odd late season hatchery Coho or a Chum at the South Arm: "Will the last person leaving the building please turn out the lights. Thank You"

The dimmer has been turned down.....and now clicked off. Diddly going on there yesterday with the exception of a couple random jumpers.....and a seal who looks pissed and hungry now that nobody is there in their boats to feed him. ;)

All in all though a cool morning out there in the fog....kinda cool to see the city like that from the water. In saying that I sure wouldn't have wanted to be out there without radar as the freighters were barely visible in the morning within 50 yards.

Trying to find the channel marker first thing.

It finally became visible.

Then things largely burned off in West Van but the center of the harbour over towards Kits was still blanketed as well as Lions Gate which showed itself occasionally through the fog.

Wow I would have guessed the one in the middle bigger than 32 :p

I'm new on here, Great to be able to get up to date reports. Was out off the Cap. on Tuesday and came up with a 15 lb chum and a 10 lb spring on the afternoon bite. Fishing Anchovies down around 70 ft in 100 ft of water. Got one on an old green Hotspot flasher and the spring with a small dodger and about 60" leader. I was the only boat out there on an incredibly beautiful day. I hope people continue to post on here as I intend to fish all winter.

Thanks for the update!

Nice to hear there is still the odd one around.......What kind of shape was the spring in? standard gray/green for the fall whites or was it a nice purple n' crome fat early winter fish??

The Spring was beautiful purple and chrome. Tasted good too. The chum wasn't quite so tasty, but still fun to catch. Would be good to hear how anyone else is doing anywhere on the lower mainland.

I guess no one else is fishing in the lower mainland. Spent the whole day fishing off the cap and there was only one other boat out there all day. didn't get any action until high slack, then picked up a nice 15 lb spring using anchovy with a green glo teaser. Fish was bright. Looks like the winter springs are around. had a few other bites, but time to go in when you can't see anything.

Has anybody been out in the lower mainland this week? I'm probably heading out Sunday and was hoping for a fishing update

Trolled around while I let the prawn & crap traps soak for 2.5 hours. Nothing on the rods. Few prawns and 1 good Dungy for me.

Kicker had a tougher time starting today, hasn't been fired up for a few weeks, and maybe the cold weather?

Hey will area 28 shrump season stay open in 2014 jan-march you think? Anyone?

I am heading over to an island on the west side of Bowen for a couple days...for some large bonfires and fishing. Not expecting a whole lot out of the fishing but should be nice to get on the water.
We dont have a ton of experience with winter fishing, and I know its early but if any of you old salties want to recommend some spots and gear that would help us out greatly... Will report on what we find out there...

Hutt Island, 2nd and 3rd Markers south of Hutt Island, Waterfall (on Bowen, across from the southern-most marker), Tunstall Bay. Generally, keep the clear as close to bottom as you can, bouncing every few minutes to make sure you're right there. Do keep an eye on the sounder for suspended bait, though. If there isn't much bait around, even small concentrations of bait off the bottom will often hold springs, particularly in the deeper water trench along the Bowen Shore near 3rd Marker/waterfall. I favour spoons with a flasher or a dummy flasher. My favourites are glow cop car, glow/green or something with chartreuse/glow. I also like the P52 Tom Mac. Anchovy and small herring fished with or without flashers are also good, but I don't bother with bait as much in the winter.

Twin Islands (Grace)/Gambier Harbour are also worth a try, especially if the cold outflow is wrapping around Gambier and working its way into the Hutt Island area. I tend to fish the 115' and 130' contours in front of the government dock, and always do a pass or two along the south side of Twin Islands and wrapping around onto the flats on the west side. They tend to hold good bait.

Good luck. Let us know how you make out.
