Victoria Reports - Spring and Summer 2012

Went out this morning with Andrew P. Fished from 8-11:30 around the wall. Never fished the breakwater much but we thought we'd join in on the boat parade out there.

1 for 1 today. Got a nice spring around 10:00 off the wall. Weighed in at 19 and change on the digital scale after I bled it and got home. It had a good fight and was a feisty fish but I was a little worried about losing him in another boats gear or to seal so I played him on the hard side. One of the hooks was slightly bent open on the gammie treble after. Good to know the bending point of these hooks.

So cool to see all the old timers in their tinny's putting in the time. Nice work guys! Much respect. Also really cool to see fish being caught right beside a gorgeous city. Very diverse fishing crowd today. Yaks, tinny's, charters, big boats, little boats. and that rad old school steam boat. I'm also happy that I didn't see any collisions or people getting run over with all the traffic.

We'll count yours Dave

But you weren't in a tinny were you? :D

He fishes with level wines and was out everyday ,he is called the poucher bye other people at the dock its a white boat ,now its
up to the courts .

Clearly no.... It has a canvas :D

Tom had 4 salmon on, including a nice pin popper, but none in the boat. It was nuts down by the harbour. I counted 50 boats trolling for salmon. I saw 2 caught from boats and 1 caught from some one casting off the end of the breakwater. The only two that I saw caught from boats were no bigger than 10 lbs at the most and I'm sure the one from the shore caster wasn't that big. And, as you can imagine, some real idiots driving boats.

Think it was white aluminum cuddy cabin. He has silver Toyota truck. Calls on his cell phone soon as he gets out of his boat
each time into Esquimalt Anglers. Has been observed going out a second time during same day he has already caught his
limit (so I've been told). Fishes almost every fishable day of week since bigger spawning chinooks arrived in June. Believe
Fisheries were tipped off last summer but apparently did not get him. Pretty obvious he is selling.

I've been on a losing streak. Missed 4 today, 5 on Tuesday and only 1 for 4 last Sunday. Hope that changes tomorrow, the last day of the derby. At least I'm getting their interest!

!

I am not surprised. The guy fishes every single day. I fished the wall 3 times this week landing 5 springs and I saw this guy catch 5. My buddies saw him land more on the other days. This week alone he had near 10 springs. This has been going on for a few years and numerous calls have been made to DFO. He came into Anglers a while back with his limit. Later in the day, he's back at it.

Did you get out craven

Boomer, we wet our lines for about 15 mins and the southwest
came up and it was time to go.
More southwest today, not a good wind for the waterfront.

My luck has been similar to Tom's, getting strikes but not landing them.

Thanks craven ,me too have four good hit at 50 feet all bait pulled hook up to head there smashing it above the head and missing the hook , thats fishing its happen the two time that I could get out ,a couple boats had three springs boated on blue Crome head at 50 feet .I might have to buy some.Goodluck boomer I did get a 17 lb hally for my luck so it's still a great days fishing

Boomer, perhaps you could distract salmonboy next time his rod hits... ;) :D

hear that a 32 was caught off the breakwater yesterday? That makes 2 tyees I know of within stones throw of it in a few weeks (co-worker caught one end of July). Surprising to me!
