They make herring heads but I hate the roll on them.

So do you favour the bullet roll heads? Peeps seem to fit all baits inside them for a roll.

Interesting day for us. Hit T10 at first light and a nice teener was on right away. After that we had 3-4 light hookups that popped off. I actually had (guessing a sockeye) smoke my bait while on the surface and give a decent run until it also spat the hook. We also managed a decent double header.. but lost the big guy while waiting for the net.

The fun started shortly after.. we had a boat cutting across the fleet moving at about 10mph screaming at every boat in his path.. with nobody at the helm. The guy must have turned his reel on freespool and just let this fish run free.. while he kept his boat in gear with no one steering. Absolute chaos. He ended up running over our lines and wrapped our cannonball which eventually snapped off. The best part was his fish surfaced at our boat (wrapped in our lines) and we almost netted it.

Things went quiet until about 1230 and the bite was back on.. except i had raincity syndrome and lost 4 fish at the boat. 2 of them were belly/side hooked and one in it's back. I've never experienced this behaviour.. very weak hook sets or gut hooked.

Not sure if you guys have any tricks as I seem to be losing (properly hooked) fish right at the boat.. no equipment failure, just hooks popping out of mouths before we can get a net on them.

We capped the day off with our skipper getting into the shallows and hooking up all of our gear on the bottom.. eventually leading us to cut another cannonball free.

Oh well.. got a couple in the box and have now let enough time pass I can talk about it.

Re losing fish, honestly I thinks it’s just something about the Fraser mouth. Some days it’s solid hookups all day but often not. I will lose more fish there in all scenarios (hit didn’t stick, right after a run, reeling in with good pressure pop gone, boatside waiting for a netting opportunity) then any other fishery. I think it’s a mix of varying willingness to fully take the gear, high current, mixed currents (river and tide), big teeth and high stakes (lots of boats, seals) and “it’s big fish sandheads time” froth that maybe gets everyone clutching the stick a little bit.

I had this big spring that was holding down then flasher hard vertically creating a big flasher wake at 50’ behind the boat lazily swimming last time I was out (a behaviour many of my 20+ lbs fish at sandheads have had) Hit popped the clip, good solid initial connection, proper hookset, good pressure. Didn’t want to move for a while, then convinced it to come the the surface slowly. I had it where I wanted it, just waiting for it to go on a heavy run and it just popped off. No headshake just gone.

I’ll keep thinking about that one until the next one

you can cut a notch out of the top of the anchovy teaser head so you can fit a herring in it.

I have found popping the lower jaw off the herring works as well.

Generally yes, we fished with small herring yesterday.

Been at SH for about 4 hrs not much action so far. Nets are resting. Flat water and a lot of smoke

Saw one north of the 2nd marker on my way in. Didn’t know that area held a lot of sox

Closed Area

If you look at Fog Duckers post # 1859, pay attention as there were at least a dozen boats in the closed area when we were heading out yesterday.

Not saying it was any members here but we did slow down to tell one guy.

A sockeye just about jumped in our boat. Smacked the side of the boat. That’s about all that’s happened today

Slow morning at SH. Very few nets out. We lost a beauty at the side of the boat and had a few other missed hook ups. Hope the tide change improves things.

We caught a massive sock on a big herring yesterday too. Very odd.

We also just had a stowaway mink come out of our gunwale and tear around the boat for a good two mins , a first for everything

Fished t10 from 10-2. Two 10-14 pounders on anchovies from 80’-100’. Didn’t weigh the fish but one red one white.

Lost a few including one at the boat. Definitely slower than yesterday but the water was nice and flat
