2021 Vancouver-Howe Sound-Sechelt Reports Thread

First time poster, I’m a yankee and ran up north to take advantage of the open fishery you guys provide since our government can’t figure it out and has had salmon shut down all but 8 days this year in the San Juan’s. We got 1 white mid teen at SH Monday 120’ on the wire in 260 ft of water, only fished for about 3 hours. Was on a Gibbs g force spoon in swiftsure pattern that has had a ton of success this year for us. Down in our neck of the woods we try to pound the bottom for kings(springs) or at least run a lot deeper than most of you guys talk about on here. Is that not the case for this fishery or up here in the area? Nice fish being caught by everyone and good luck out there!

Earlier in the year its a bottom/structure fishery but at the fraser mouth they are nosing up to get used to the freshwater and can be found as high as 20'

Good luck next time. To be honest though, that was as quiet as I've ever seen SH.

Trolled NA to T10 9am-2pm.. 1 10lb pink in the first hour on bait at 60ft in 180.

then zoomed over to SH and kept trying there. A couple missed nibbles and destroyed bait, but nothing stuck.

I’ve been out 3 times recently and had 0 chinook. Tried spoons, hootchies, chovies, herring, plugs, etc etc.

are the fish just not here? Or is my kicker too loud and scaring all the fish away lol

We spent all day Wednesday at Sand Heads and got nothing but a Pink. Moved to North Arm Thursday to Saturday and got 5 Chinook
9, 10, 12, 12 and 24 pounds an assortment of pinks. It was very slow and we put in long hours. 2 were on Skinny G cop car spoon, 2 on anchovy, and 2 on pink hootchie of all things. 90 to 100 feet in 150 to 300 feet of water. Seeing a lot of bait but very few arches. In my opinion it is just luck you get one at this point.

One pink so far at sandheads nice day out here. Be nicer if the springs decided to stop by hahaha. Lots of full logs off the NA and t10 I almost nailed one and managed to slip by.

Oh great something else I need to spend money on!

Well Dr McCormack gave me a proposition... dock at 1:30 pm. I have a hard time refusing so on the dock we were at super low tide. The launch went fine and we made our way out to Sandheads. There were boats but everyone was spread out. Nothing to insane. We worked the outside 300 feet for not much. Then worked our way in. At the 150 I believe we connected with a 20 pound chinook on a small herring. Great fight. Had some shakers here and there. A few decent hits that came off fast. Maybe pinks, coho or small chinook. Then we got another just over legal chinook on a big herring. All action was at the 55 foot mark on the wire.

Slow but we did see a few chinook hit the decks this afternoon.

Got out with the legend himself @Reeltime. Dropped the lines at SH at 2PM. 150-250 FOW 48-58 on the riggers. Big herring (my usual) picked up two scrappy marble 20's in the first couple hours. Amazing fights with huge runs. Major display of patience on the net by RT. Went quiet for a while but we stuck to our spot and just did circles waiting. Got an under on my side and when I shut the motor down to deal with it his rod went off and a beauty red 12 took the XL chovy at a near dead stop. More circles and bang another just keeper red on his same setup. They're out there guys. I'm not packing it in just yet.

What time was all the action. I might go tonight to north arm. But I'll only have a 2.5 hour window.

I fished 2-6. Beginning and the end of the shift. Day before was two fish in two hours from 2-4.
