Yeah I'm not saying that he's not. And again I'm not trying to be overly critical of it I'm just wondering what the benefit is. Or is this just ingrained fly fishing technique? I'm guessing that's what it is.I see a guy fighting a fish and enjoying it. It’s not a race to crank it in the boat as fast as you can brother it’s about soaking up every second of the fight and trying to get everything out of the fight. He’s probably got a nice long 10’6 long rod with some nice spine to it and he’s just getting a good feel out of the fish. But yah above all I see a guy having some fun and enjoying the moment.
Ok I'm bored, sue me. Boats in the shop.
Without dogging the poor guy can someone please explain to me why he's doing this? It makes no sense to me.

Got yah. He could have a fish coming to the surface fast and he’s trying to pick up the slack fast from when the flasher breaks the surface.Yeah I'm not saying that he's not. Thank you this is what I'm saying. It would seem simpler to palm with your right hand while it just sits there and doesn't go back and forth. You have to see the video I guess. This wasn't a one-off he played every fish this way for the whole episode. Up and down, up and down with the right hand.rod up high using all of it, good technique, not sure about his hand shutting down the reel though. i would do that from the underside of the reel (palming), so if the fish wanted to rip or it was actually bigger than thought, it could run if wanted. also i would have opposite hands doing that.. he would have to switch hand positions to reel?
his dad didnt slap his hand enough growing up.Thank you this is what I'm saying. It would seem simpler to palm with your right hand while it just sits there and doesn't go back and forth. Lol Marks caught a pile of fish and he enjoys what he does thats for sure. He wouldn’t be a bad guy to learn from.I'm pretty sure he was taught by Mark Pendlington
Yeah you can't argue with his results. His arms must get tired though.Lol Marks caught a pile of fish and he enjoys what he does thats for sure. He wouldn’t be a bad guy to learn from.
Yes definitely some over acting at times. Little performance for the cameras I would guess lol.Yeah you can't argue with his results. His arms must get tired though.
Big fish looks like a white springThe Hillier boys have caught more than their share of fish on this coast over the years, for themselves and their many guests. I had a chance to fish with the next generation of Hillier's in Haida Gwaii a couple years back, so the lineage continues.
