Transom in my boat almost gone

I was thinking of having a friend make me a aluminum plate that fits right over the rear of the boat inside and out total and a smaller plate for where the bolts come through for the main out board and kicker total lower down inside total weight 15 to 20 lbs and to compinsate for the added weight on the stern was going to put my extra fuel in a new bow tank with a pump to pump the fuel to my 25 litre stern tank. Rather then carrying one or two jerry cans in the stern. I know I have to look for a new boat but just want to run this one another year. Other then the transom the rest of the boat is okay but not worth me redoing it $$$ Besides I'm sure everything else is close behind, stringers...... Whats your opinion ???

Cheers ME

If you can do a lot of the work yourself as a 'project' then do so but if you're not motivated don't bother.
Something like that can become a millstone around your neck-dropping more and more money into a bottomless pit.
Next time see if you cam swing an aluminum boat-you'll pay more but like 4 stroke motor it pays off in the end.

that's why there's a warranty!

:)Hull was cheap, the trailer still good and the gear on the boat is easy to remove. My money is in the gear, electronics and the motors not the hull.So if I sold the motors and trailer I would still almost break even for what I've spent not to bad considering the three years of enjoyment. It's almost time to upgrade to a 18.5 to a 21 foot cuddy. Better boat for things planned in the future for the family and me.

Cheers Thanks for the reply ME

If you go ahead with this plan make sure your alumimun plates go right around both corners of your stern or your old transom my bust off right there. I guess it ultimately depends on how strong your hull and transom are.

Sharp hooks and full traps!

Hi Red be careful,it doesnt take a very big water to finish off the rest.Heres what my bro did. He went to a fiberglass shop had a new one put on for a couple of hundred bucks.Chances are there are more problems.wouldnt be a 80s bayliner by chance

thanks the runt

It's an old cal glass. Will be removing motors this weekend and having the hull and transom looked at by a friend who is a pro boat inspector. My floor is solid and so are my stringer. I am looking at upgrading anyways when the right deal comes around. I don't have alot of money invested in the hull so it's not really a loss!!!

Hey ME

Repairs are going to be a little more then I thought! Yesterday finished the trailer new lights etc and it's now off to the paint shop. Boats up on blocks with the motors off installing 50 litre bow tank and also an electric fuel pump in line for priming. No more having to squeeze the ball, flick of a switch and the motors ready to start. The aluminum will be cut and welded by Wednesday for the transom, but I am also adding 3/4 inch plywood to the inside and will be glassing it in to add strength. I bought a proper kicker bracket so my kicker will sit deeper in the water not like before when it was right on my transom. Installed a new pioneer cd stereo. My top is at the upolstry shop being fixed and another friend is going to repaint the hideous stripes on my boat to blue the were 70's yellowy gold. Now the boat is off the trailer I am also going to do some minor repairs to the hull. All I can say is it sure great to have some friends that are willing to pitch in and help, but then most of them have caught fish on my boat and want to get out again soon. It was a very tough day yesterday knowing I should have been out on the water fishing but all I can say is I can't wait til the boats done and done right. I figure at the rate I going will be ready in a week to ten days. Then the fish better watch out!!!!!

The sad part is I wish I was finished yesterdayOh well I want to do it right so I can sell it soon and upgrade to something bigger

Wow can't believe transom is almost done and will be stronger then ever. A friend spent 1/2 of the day yesterday applying glass and resin to the outside of the transome where it was dished and one more coat today and it will be like new. He also cut a new 3/4" piece of plywood for the inside to be glasses in today. I picked up the 3/16" aluminum that I fabricated to slip right over the whole transom inside and over the lip and outside for additional support.(only weighs 20 lbs) Was quoted 800 to 1200 to have it done by a pro. My final cost will be less then $250 including the lucksters etc. Will post some pics when it's done. Feels great that I am doing it myself with some very generous help from my friends.

Cheers Kevin
