The Choice

Power came on after last nights big blast, anyhow have these thoughts running rampant, IF you had a choice for a first class fishing craft for West Coast regions, miles off shore, close to shore etc, including Halibut fishing, what would it be? I should add money not been a criteria. I guess what Im looking for is the peoples choice in regards to the best out there. I dont know myself but would like to view those choices for my own knowledge
Thanks

if $$$ was no object i would take a 26-28' grady white
with twin 200hp yams or honda's
there is a serious off/on shore boat with lot's of power
to spare.

26ft seaswirl,24-26 sportsman, 24ft. orca 24ft.aluminum chambered boats.all bullet proof.

thanks the runt

I'll second that vote for Northwest aluminun boat or silver streak.Of course the money thing has alot to do with me not having one.

The aluminums appeal to me, Im scared slsss coming in at dusk straining to look for deadheads.
Basically its so little time,so much to do.

When I was commercial crab fishing out of port Renfrew we hit alot of logs and debris in the water with our 24 foot aluminum skiff.A few bumps and bruises were all the boat suffered, never a broken weld or a leak after.Gets pretty ugly up there in Renny in the winter months.

I know of a 24 foot northwest copy bare hull, bracket on back with no power or interior, glass included and fuel tank. $29,000 no tax HE is a friend of dougs, and does a real nice job!

As a guide boat i would go aluminum, don't know to much about them other than there good "west coast boats" and are low maintenance. Ive been on harbercrafts and ive found them quite nice. If maintenace wasnt a problem i would go with a grady, how ever they are set up for personal fishing, not so much for guiding. Parkers are a very nice boat also.

To fish or not to fish,
What a stupid question!
Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day, teach a man to fish, and he will sit on a boat drinking beer for a life time :D

56 ft Cabo. Extra loaded cabin package including hot tub. Twin 300 hp turbo diesels. 150 hp Yamaha 4 stroke for a kicker.

Have the fully loaded 17 foot Montauk with the 90 HP Yam and the 8 hp electric tilt kicker on the davit in case I wanted to fish inshore on a sunny day.

You did say money was no object, right?

Gooey.

Otter, Do you want to trailer this money no object rig? If thats the case 21' seems about the right size, I had an aluminum made 12 years ago and sure like it. Two things I suggest, the hull should be 5086 grade aluminum and 3/16" thick. Very strong because of the alloys but won't stay real shiny.

Reel Easy I presently run a 17 ft Double Eagle FG, Im a couple of minutes from the marina which is been torn down. I tow as there has beem too many thefts from boats docked at the local marinas. Im happy with my present set up but often thought what the ultimate unit would be, Sure a lot of different opinions but expected. Repliers seem to favor aluminum. Think one day when I have to or when its time I will go alum. Time to save up though.
Thanks to all who replied, interesting,

What about Monaro's? Are they all they claim to be? If half of what they say is true then they sound like quite a boat. Very pricey though, even for an older used one.

This is what I'm holdn' out for http://www.seaswirl.com/Boats/Boats_Detail.asp?bid=302

Low profile for fishing tight. Roomy and beamy for the outside stuff AND still trailerable! W/ the proper permit.

Maybe it's time to sell what I have now........Sh**, this is the third year I've caught myself saying that. <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

Some like it rough...
Others just puke!.

On the SeaSwirl, Stripers, I hear they have one problem. Apparently when trolling in waves of any size, they tend to hold their course poorly.

Apparently this is due to a fine entry but flatter bow section. At speed this is not a problem. Also they seem to all be set up for only two persons, even on the 26' model.

For ride quality, and if fuel was no object, a 31' Ocean Master with a couple of zuke 300's. The one I have some experience with is a real treat it big water, although a little cold since it's a CC.

Each to thier own, but I don't like the ride of tin boats in any sort of big water, but they are very roomy and stable at rest while fishing (My experience only, lots of guys run them and swear by them).

The one I have had a lot of experience with (A 24' 9'6" beam), is a REAL handfull in a following sea, and a real banger in the chop.

Just my $0.02

If you want the best get a Bertram 31 or a hatteras beautiful boats
My 25 Bertram rides the west coast and makes her the b*tch 440 horse now thats a fishing machine!

Im a little biased, I would only have a purtuit, so I have one. I had the unique oportunity to run a grady 25 ft. islander for half the season and although they both have their pros and cons, I like the pursuit better. The biggest thing I like about it is the trolling speed manuverability.

For me it's got to be a 28ft commercial whaler with twin 200 E-tecs on the back. There is one on usedvictoria that would fit me just fine. They are definitely a rough ride in heavy seas but I dont think there is a better boat for those conditions. The E-tecs speak for themselves.
Oh and I forgot the brass stripper pole in the cuddy.[}:)]
