Sooke Reports - Spring and Summer 2011

Yes it will be on. I will start calling around to the industry experts in the early part of September when I have more time off and getting it organized. I will announce a date once I have everyone committed. Looking towards late Oct to early November when Charters has lots of water and some fish for everyone to look at before they head in for the seminar. Out this morning, landed 4...24, 22, 15 and 14, lost 3 more. No big bite just one hear and there all orning long. Came in just after the change to the flood so didn't get to see what happened on the better tide.

out from 6-11, fished trailerpark in the a.m , 1 nice coho, no springs. Moved to Muir and got three nice ones all cookie cutter 18lbs, purplehaze and betsey teasers were the tickeyt fish were deeper for me 60- 70 on the Rigger, a bite came on about 10, number one son had a sore arm ha ha... Good Day Driller

Funny betsy betsy has been absolutely DEAD for me this year. I could hardly get a pink to take it and that was my go to combination last year. Maybe I was starting it too early is gold an end of august thing? See lots of people still using betsy flashers so maybe it was just me.

Good day for us out west today.. 2 hatch coho, a couple big pinks, and 4 springs 18-22 in 3 hrs... anything green with green was catching our fish too... Super nice day on the water too!

Beauty day and another lucky Wednesday for me. Fished out west and landed my 2nd over 40 for the month....a 40 1/2, 16, 1/2, 11 and 8 pound springs. Lost 4 more including one about 20 through a hole in my net...first time that has happened to me. Also a 8 pound sockeye and a bunch of pinks. All the springs were above 50ft. The crabbing has gone south the past week and a bit inside the harbour.

fishing today sucked, was out on the water 6-2 cruising beechy all the way to secretary and didnt have a single strike from a spring, I had no problem hooking into pinks but other than that I didnt even see anyone else catching springs, nobody at the boat launch had any either,

bit of a bummer day for me but it happens

Thought I would get the pics off my camera and let you see the 2 hogs from this month....this is the 41 pound fish from August 17th, Otter Pt at 55 ft, purp glow hot spot and a glow white anchovy special...just at the beginning of the ebb.

Happy Halibut fishing this weekend boys.... Feel bad for all the charter businesses out there... Wonder if the gov will compensate for loss of business...lol

Holmes...lol that was the first fishing trip for him. His first fish was a 16.5 pound spring about 2 hours earlier then the 40 pounder. We caught the big one just before the lines came in to go home. I don't think his arms had recovered from playing the fish when he had to lift this guy up for the pics.

nice fishes Pro, that guy in the second pic looks scared,lmao,....is that supposed to be funny Anyfishlldo?, cause it really isnt funny at all, you're really poking a hornets nest there, and I and probably a whole host of others here dont appreciate someone poking fun at the loss of business to ones livelyhood, ya get me?.....holmes*

Are you sure your reading that right Holmes? Hard to judge if someone is being sarcastic or genuine in some situations. To me, it seemed sincere.

He does state he feels bad for the charter businesses...the gov part I think is a poke at gov..not the guides. That is how I read it.

Beautiful fish, profisher. One of those will find my hook someday... :D Hope sooner than later. So you fish the ebb as well at Otter?? Guess I will ask you all that at your fall seminar...

Chris...too funny because I ended up staying longer than I intended because we hit a few few there at daylight. Stayed through high slack and was about to move as the current had just turned. I was heading west from the ebb flow and was due south of the point in about 90 to 100 feet of water. As my gear crossed from the ebb flow which runs SW...into the eddy that sets up along that break the fish hit. Glad I hung in there a bit longer.
