Has anyone tried using a Penn reel and 100 (?) lb dacron as a line to place and pull traps?

I tried rigging up an old double handled manual downrigger with Dacron line. (Thought I was so damn smart!) Made everything very nice and compact, but there were two inherant problems: 1.The line bit into itself on the spool so hard it became a mess. Actually sliced the spool apart and,2. When, not "if", but WHEN the Dacron touches ANYTHING that is the slightest bit sharp when under tension, you lose your gear.Older...smarter...using rope.

Thanks for the info. Cedarstrip, you seem to have the answer I was looking for - having tried it and discovered the shortcomings.
