September has been an exciting month - looking back over the past few years, this season has been sectactular. Thanks be known to the abundance of baitfish and cooler water temps in the straights this year, we have seen some really awesome fishing days over here on the Island, in the Nanaimo area.

The opportunities for successful angling continue with some late chinook and what seem to be a few early coho. The pink have started to slow in the Departure Bay area as they progress in maturity and stack waiting to finalize their journey. The beach anglers are still having fun fishing for pink salmon in the bay...as we approach the end of September, this weekend is an anglers best opportunity to fish for pink salmon in Departure Bay/Inner Harbour, as the DFO zero fin-fish regulation has been extended and is not going to be implemented until Oct. 15, 2007. Departure Bay Stays Open For Pink...

Lingcod will close Sept. 30.

More opportunity for salmon fishing continues outside toward the fingers for coho, pink and the closer we get to Oct/Nov. the better our chances to take advantage of our local chum and coho fishery. Chinook outside the DFO marked boundry has also produced some very nice late run fish in the mid-twenty's to young thirties. I can't wait until the chinook non-retention boundy re-opens in Oct.

Local lakes are producing some nice trout and bass, with Westwood being the hot spot this week for big trout once again. Green Lake, and Long Lake are showing some nice bass.

Cheers,
RVP. ;)

Hey RVP!I saw the pic of a Raven centerpin reel on your website. They look pretty wild.Have you used them yourself?Look like they might be a nice alternative to the Islanders.

Hey RVP did you find someone to build your rods for you?
