Interesting video

Did you mention (you may have too look it up?) that while traditional fish traps are legal blocking the whole river is not?

I too am SHOCKED THAT SO MANY ARE SHOCKED ! NO POLITICIAN will stand up to them or be heard .... . it might affect their pension we need another OKA to get this straight but the F?N need to be put in their place and CANADA needs t make equal rights for all ........ everyone

This has been going on for years and years.... this group of F/N could give a rats _SS! about the future of their so called fish ! Why are they not just releasing any wild fish over the trap even. THEY ARE A PATHETIC bunch that are so greedy they live only for today !

No different then them saying, " WE HAVE CLOSED BEAR HUNTING ON THE WEST COAST " get over it, since when did the F/N right the law in this country, oh but wait ...NO JUDGE WILL STAND UP TO THE USELESS BUNCH EITHER !

The whole thing of NON EQUAL RIGHTS is what it is all about, how they go about getting their food fish will not change be it dip nets as you see in the video or gill set nets that are not checked for days and have rotting salmon it them, no different then the yearly dump grounds of Alberni where waste by the thusands of pounds occur.

It's our Laws and Rights that are really PATHETIC !

WAKE UP GOVERNMENT OF CANADA !

This is not a news-worthy problem.

This fishery isn't causing a problem for Cap coho populations. It has more to do with the giant dam impeding fish passage up stream, the altered flow regimes of the lower river, channelization and destruction of fish habitat. Not to mention poor marine survival due to ocean conditions and unsustainable commercial fisheries.

This footage is difficult to watch as it is obviously distasteful and disrespectful. However, it's easy to see this snapshot and forget about our long history of destroying salmon habitat and depleting fish stocks that First Nations people had previously relied on.

It's too bad this footage was made viral because it only serves to amplify the animosity between sports fishermen and First Nations...
