How to reinforce a lid for a seat

I had originally thought about running ‘joists’ but thought that would be futile since the ends do not tie into the edges. This plan looks interesting.

There are a couple of quick release seat mechanisms that are out there that mate together with a simple lever mechanism to disengage and voila, the seat is off.

Talked with a fibreglasser today who put me on to the idea of sanding the underside with a grinder, applying a layer of 1/2” stock matting and epoxying over that.
