Actually prawns are still bought by a number of smaller processors. Its one of the few remaining fisheries where independent fishermen sell to independent buyers. You can smell corporate influence to DFO on this one. Keep making it harder for independent fishermen to make money until you squeeze them out. Prawns has been a great high $$ export which if you understand economics is supposed to be a good thing. I think the Liberal bureaucrats under Justin all have to read Karl Marx's Das Kapital prior to changing regulations.

I know North Delta is in the prawn game.
Was not too sure about the bulk of them.
Agreed that DFO Central would like to have one commercial boat on the Pacific catching all the commercial catch, with one observer on board and offloading once a month to the same spot where a DFO frontline will reconcile the numbers.
Sometimes DFO comes up with crap all on its own, most of the time it starts from a squeaky wheel that DFO Central is tuned into.
