Anbody fished Sooke?

Fished Secretary this am, handful of shaker springs, 1 hatchery coho, 1 sockeye and NO DOGGIES which was nice. Heard of a few springs getting caught but did not see any landed.

I'll second Pescadero's recommendation regarding the powdered milk. Ran into this down on the Columia a few years back, and been using it ever since.

Yeah, the Columbia was my old training grounds. And, that is where I picked it up too. I use it in both salt water and the fresh water Fall fishing. Seems to work well both places.

Eagle Eyes-Nothing definite re Otter. By the time I was thinking of giving it a rub, the Westerly had started to blow.

HeHeHe... I have been adding it to my mix for a while now, as well as a drop or two of blue food coloring. Remember when mixing in the salt (if you are a boiler like me), to leave room for the powder. Dont saturate fully with salt, or the stuff won't mix properly. Also, dont add it in when the brine is hot, or it seems to curdle. You don't need to add too much. Sure does make for some darn shiny anchovies!!

So wolf, you refreeze your 'chovies after a day fishing? I presume they are still good the next day.. how long can you do this for? I usually toss mine at the end of the day, but they sure are getting scarce, it would be nice to use them all up!

Am I reading this right? Are you guys making a liquid brine for your bait? I've always just salted it heavily, the way my Father-in-law taught me, and the bait gets kinda flat after a while. Is there a recipe for this somewhere?

well guys thanx for the tips!
Drove down from Nanaimo today with pops for the afternoon bite(also it was nice and calm) got on the water at 3(at otter point i might add). hatchery coho at 330 on green gold flasher 8 foot leader and green/chart. glow scale teaser w. chove. 4- double header of springs one 12 pounds (me) and the other 28(pops) mine was on the above setup, pops slab was on a betsy(gold back) w. 8 foot leader glow white scale head. what a rush that was those playing those 2 springs at the same time! man that was so much fun. anyway continue trolling..
catch a 4 foot dog, gut and release. release a very fiesty wild coho around 7 pounds(seal bite to boot), catch a few shakers and pinks. meanwhile everyone around is still nailin the slabs and cohos everywhere(about 15 boats out). then just in the rip off otter (it's about 6 now) i nail a nice 19 pounder(put up one hell of a fight too!). then while winding in the rods a while later pops gets a nice coho 10 feet behind the boat on the green setup. now about 8 while im gutting the fish we get a huge strike on my bucktail rob that i was fishin off the downrigger all afternoon(managed only 1 coho which i lost- about 8 pounds) however the fish didnt hook up<img src=icon_smile_dissapprove.gif border=0 align=middle>. it's tough to figure how a fish misses 2 razor sharp trebles. but anyway what an afternoon! sure beats gettin up at 2-3 AM and drivin down there! i refroze my leftover choves herring and strip and will try this milk/salt brine next time(hopefully this weekend!)

Sounds like a great day Eagle Eyes. Did you say you launched right at Otter-at the trailer park ramp? I guess I thought it was for their guests only.
lpaulcarter-brine solution is around 1 cup of pickling salt for about a litre of water.
