2021 Vancouver-Howe Sound-Sechelt Reports Thread

My bad wasn’t paying attention to what i posted,,,, yes No slot limit in 28-9
Ha ha, no worries. I made the same assumption until the wording was pointed out to me.

Hopefully you haven’t released any overs in 28-9 since the 13th!

Good morning guys,

A buddy and I are headed out for the first time in local waters. Going to hit the cap then see if we can find some pinks. Is south Bowen still producing? Will look around.
Cheers, Rob

As usual, DFO regs are clear as mud with the website / app in conflict with the FN.

I usually defer to the FN, which says that there is no slot for 28-9 - convince me otherwise…

Strait of Georgia South - Area 28 and 29 (with the exception of those portions of Areas 28 and 29 listed in the section below):
- Currently in effect to 23:59 hours July 31: Chinook non-retention;
- 00:01 hours August 1 to 23:59 hours August 31: 1 Chinook per day with a maximum size limit of 80 cm on marked and unmarked Chinook.
- 00:01 hours September 1 to 23:59 hours December 31: 2 Chinook per day.

Subarea 28-9
- Currently in effect to 23:59 hours August 12: No fishing for Chinook;
- 00:01 hours August 13 to 23:59 hours August 31, the daily limit for Chinook salmon is one(1) per day.
- Effective 00:01 hours September 1 until 23:59 hours December 31, the daily limit for Chinook salmon is two (2) per day
If you read the general regulation in the app it lists 80 max for all sub areas of 28. You’d think they’d have this listed in the regs elsewhere as it wouldn’t be fair to assume every person must use the app..?

Now that would be a kick in the nuts... loll, been watching those opening dates very close with anticipation. Good luck! HOGTEMBER

I've had some amazing days lately. In fact the past few years I've upped my game substantially. But every year I still go through a few days of blanks. Sometimes I feel like it's payment to the fish gods. Gotta have bad days to appreciate the good ones.

The day was actually really special to me because I got to take out my 11 year old niece. She put on a happy face even though the conditions would have made a seasoned vet white knuckle it. I knew how to make her smile when things were tough.

Anybody know the reasons for closing local rivers for the pink run?

Not at all scientific but the numbers visually appear to be massive after scouting it out this week.. and why allow 4 per day yet close the river?

Not exactly sure but I remember they said something about the drought situation and the extremely low water levels.

Specifically for the Squamish returns were expected to be very low. We had several high-water events and also had BC Hydro ramping event on the Cheakamus that killed a number of spawning adults in range of 550.

Was heading from Point Atkinson towards bell buoy yesterday and was amazed to see this guy.
first time in 30 years of fishing local waters.
must be global warming??

Just spoke with some of the local guides and they are all 100% fishing it as 80cm max. They commented that the general regs list all of 28 as max 80cm. I guess DFO were saying the regs flow in either direction.. if not listed in sub region but listed in general region then it applies to all subs and if not listed in general region but is listed in sub region it applies to that sub.. if that makes sense.
