2017 OFFISHALL Vancouver-Howe Sound-Sechelt Reports Thread

Is the spot prawn season dead for us now b/c of the commercial fishery? Was considering dropping traps tomorrow....

4 traps i should add that this was my best set all spring, not the norm

when do the commies start dropping traps?

Was planning a trip to thrasher yesterday but the forecast is now predicting a risk thunderstorms in the afternoon.
If that doesn't change i won't go out. Anyone else in the same boat?

Well then... I'm dropping those traps today and we'll see what they look like tomorrow :)

Fished Thrasher yesterday and pretty crazy double headers etc. of just legal or smaller. I changed it up and managed an 18lb which turned out to be a white, had I known I would have released it and kept a 12lb legal red. I measued a herring in the bigger fish to be almost 8 inches long , caught the bigger one at 150 feet deep and big chovie.

If you met the fish (with a catch and release net please) and haul it aboard, please remove the hook and gently lift up the gill plate and you can see the colour of the flesh under the jaw.

You can the decide to release or not. If done right, there is no harm to the fish. Most people still net their fish anyways....

I only really take salmon when personal fishing when the reds are prevalent in July August and September...otherwise, a gentle boat side release is in order....unless I'm hungry.

The days of people filling their freezers seem to be slowly dissapearing, take what you need. I would like to see fisheries crack down on these guys with 2 year old kids on board keeping extra fish. I thought the kid had to be capable of reeling it in?
