Yamaha F225 Low RPM Fuel Consumption

Tight Roll

Member
Hi. I have the 3.3 L F225 Yamaha outboards on my boat. My fuel management system jumps all over (between 0 and 15 L/hr) at trolling rpms such as 600 to 900 rpm so I really don't know how much I am using. Does anyone have some estimated fuel consumption at lower rpm's?

Different motor but my 2009 df300 4.0l suzuki at idle trolling 700rpm ish shows .70 gallon per hr or Just a bit over 2.5l a hr....

The reason it is doing this is because the electric low pressure lift pump is pulsed (on for 10 seconds, off for 20 seconds)when the RPM is below 1200 to avoid over pumping fuel to the VST and related components. You would have to measure the fuel consumed during a certain period and just calculate the average.

I have a 4.2L f250. I doubt the consumption figures would be much different. Idle 6-700rpm is 0.5gph, 1000rpm is around 1gph. Trolling for tuna at 7 knots is around 1700-1800rpm and 2.6-2.8gph.
