What's your MPG?

Just did a cruise through the gulf islands and captured some data. I have a defiance San juan 220 with a 2018 DF200A suzuki outboard. I cruise at 4500 rpm at 45 km/hr, trimmed, fueled and 3 people.

Reset my trip gauge and covered 83 km in 3.1 hrs and burned 63 liters of fuel....this is all date erom the motor computer.

It displayed an average of 1.3 km/liter which based on Google shows a 3.058 US Mpg....

Very happy with both the performance and efficiency of my engine. With my onboard fuel tank of 100 US gallons I have a very good range.

Cheers

Sudsy

Trophy 2052 4.3 EFI Mercruiser loaded with camping gear, water, fishing gear and usually two people burns about 1L/km in real-world conditions and has for the past ~9000 km I've run it. This is in a mix of rough water and calm water. I'm a bit underpropped to give me better hole shot with a heavy 9.9 4 stroke kicker hanging off the back and bigger than normal batteries. If you're counting the dollars, it seems you're doing boating wrong.

I’m thrilled when I can get two and change at cruise...of course having a 680 liter fuel tank doesn’t help with the weight issue

1.5 is amazing for a 30' multi bedroom cruiser at cruising speed.

Remember - you are bringing your house with you....

For reference; Grady 282 w/ Yam 225s... cruise 1.5 mpg... Verado 300s 1.4-1.5 mpgs

Whaler 315 with Verado 300s at cruise 1.0-1.1 mpg

Whaler 315 with Verado 350s 1.4-1.5 mpg

Eaglecraft 34 w/ single D6-400 1.7 mpg @ cruise 30mph

Tiara 4200 Open w/ twin QSM11, 26 mph cruise, 30 GPH for a 0.8mpg

American Tug single cummins 405hp QSL9.... 8 knots, 4 GPH. 10 knots, 10 GPH, 12 knots 20gph...

Speed, reliability, or cheap. Pick two.
very good reliable information.
I think 1.5 for a 30' boat is VERY good. (us gal of course)

17’ lifetimer runabout with new 60hp merc dad and I run hour or so 5500rpm and fish for 5-7hrs at 800-1300rpm and only burns 20-30$ in fuel each day…. God I love that boat for running cheap, its a quick plane but trolls down to exactly where I want it too. Not the big cruisers posted here, thats for sure, but that 60hp will keep the costs low.

On our 29 foot Sea Ray we cruise at 28mph, 3300 rpm., and burn about 71 lph when seas are rippled. That is 1.5 mi./US gal. When loaded, we are about 9000 pounds and running a 454 w/ Quadrajet carb. I do have a fuel flow meter.

Ideal flat calm up at Nootka inside last week. 2 pax, 1/4 tank of fuel, all my gear on board. Dialled back on the rpm to about 3600. 23 ft Grady with a 2019 Yamaha F250. Somebody on this site told me that new Yam F250’s weren’t more fuel efficient that an old 2003 F225. They were wrong. This new motor burns 10-20 % less fuel. With more torque.

Anybody know how NMEA Yamaha calculates gallons? Is it in US or Imperial gallons? If there a way to switch it?

2004 gulfstream , brand new twin 200 4 stoke Yamaha's . fully loaded with 180 galleon fuel , and 4 big cooler with ice. i am thinking about 8500 lbs + , burning about 13.5 GPH cruising at 4100 Rpm doing 30 MPH.

Pursuit 2870 with twin Suzuki 250. Cruising at 30 mph, 1.7 MPG. Did have a one hour run at 2.0 MPG last week going out with big outgoing tide.

That is very impressive. I can get slightly better, but when I load mine up I can be under 3mpg if it's not flat. That is a great boat you have there love what you have done the 23 rocks.
Thanks now that it’s loaded up my wot went from 5800 ish to 5400. Mpg I assume has fallen off.

These things happen, it's amazing how much stuff fits in a boat. We ran from Campbell river to Mcneil today. Avg was around 3-3.1 best was 3.4ish around 31-34mph cruise. We used 32 us gal traveled 100 miles. Easy math, 3.125 MPG. I've got her loaded right up. holding just over 340L of fuel and enough goodies (beer, food tackle ice) for 10 days.

At least the ride quality is fantastic when they are heavy.
