What size scotchman does everone like for a hali spear?

I dont use one.. If any butt can rip off the welded cleat on my boat, or break the 2000lb strength lanyard that is attached to the SS aircraft cable that is in turn attached to the needle-sharp poon head---- well-- good on him! Balloons are for those that insist in running a poon head into soft parts of the fish, such as the guts. If you do that, then yes, you need the buffering factor from a the fish trying to drag balloon down.

(But dont try my method in a 14 ft tinny!!!)

I spear my halibut then hang onto the rope and pull it along side the boat. When my guests are over the side of the boat looking at the beast I lift it up high enough out of the water to get it thrashing and dumping hundreds of gallons of water all over them and inside the boat. One day I'll try and video the event.

You dont get to do that tying on a scotchman to the spear and letting it go over the side. Seems kind of weeeeeek.

Thanks for the input guys wont try that in a tinny lol and Id love to see that video i will also be doing that Ive caught some 60lb 70lb have just used two gaffs and in the boat they come.I have a 24ft grady so lots of room to wrestle them my nefew loves this lol Ill have to video that one day its halarious..
